Obituary for Anthony R. Iraci

Anthony R. Iraci, devoted family man and New York City first responder,
died on March 26, 2020 in Richmond University Medical Center at the age
of 48. Mr. Iraci was was born on Staten Island where he lived and
attended school. He graduated from St. Peter's Boys' High School and
went on to the College of Staten Island where he played baseball. Mr.
Iraci became a NYPD Detective and was a 9/11 first responder. He shortly
after changed paths to serve as a firefighter in the FDNY where he was
assigned to Engine 155, from which he retired.
Mr. Iraci was completely devoted to his family. This devotion led him to
serve in many volunteer roles for the community. He was the president of
St. Rita's Sports Association for many years, a coach for Mid Island Little
League, a coach for Richmond Titans, and a basketball coach at St. Rita.
He was always organizing fundraising events and volunteering to help
these local organizations. He was a big Yankee fan, but was an even
bigger fan of his own children, attending their games and recitals, which
he almost never missed. His favorite vacation spot was Disney World with
his family, and also enjoyed visiting Lake George, Lancaster and
Hershey, Pennsylvania with his mother and father-in-law. His bond with
his father-in-law extended with their love of horse racing as well. He liked
playing golf and playing with his 3 dogs every time he entered the house.
He had an infectious smile that never left his face and his humorous
nature kept everyone around him laughing. He was always the first to
lend a hand when you needed something and the last to complain about
anything. To know him was to love him.
Mr. Iraci, the son of the late Anthony and Anna Iraci, was the loving
husband for 24 years of Melissa (nee Kelly), who he met at age 19. He
was the beloved father of Alexa Rose and Anthony Christopher. He also
leaves his sister Toniann Caraher and brother Thomas, his sister
Annamarie Tollevsen and brother Glenn, his brother Rosario and sister
Lisa, his brother Joseph and sister Patricia, his mother-in-law and fatherin-law Rosemarie and Christopher Kelly, whom he affectionately called
Mom and Dad. Also survived by many nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles,
cousins, godchildren, and 3 dogs, Disney, Hershey, and Jekyll.
Wake and funeral services will be private, along with a private burial at
Moravian Cemetery.
