Obituary

Obituary for Frances Montalbano

Frances Montalbano, died peacefully, on Sunday, April 5, 2020, at the age of 98. She was a resident of Eger Nursing Home for the last 5 years. She was born in Manhattan on December 4, 1921 to Joseph and Philippa Maltese. The family moved to South Beach on Staten Island in the 1930s, Frances was a graduate of Curtis High School.
After graduation, she worked in the garment industry in Manhattan as a seamstress. She continued to work throughout her life making dresses on Staten Island, as well. She was an expert seamstress, making clothing for her family and altering any item with ease.
On September 28, 1947, she married the love of her life, Joseph Montalbano. They were happily married for 59 years until his passing in 2006. They lived in South Beach for all those years in the house her father built for their family. They were active members of Holy Rosary Parish and founding members of the Arrochar Friendship Club. Frances served on the Advisory Board of the Center and was an active member enjoying many life long friendships. She and her husband liked to travel with friends and especially liked to ballroom dance.
Frances is survived by her daughter, RoseAnn Mezzacappa and her husband, Nicholas Mezzacappa; Her son, Joseph Montalbano and his wife Patricia; Her grandchildren, Steven Mezzacappa and his wife, Melissa; Stephanie Molinini and her husband Ricky; Nicole Mezzacappa; Melissa Montalbano and Bobby Barbera; Caryn Bates and her husband, Robert. She is also survived by her 11 great grandchildren, Dominick, Nicholas, Elena, Samantha, Jaclyn, Natalie, Vincent, Scarlett, Paul, Robert, and Allie. Also survived by her beloved brother, Leonard Maltese of Yonkers, NY. She was predeceased by her brothers, James and Anthony Maltese. Her family also includes many loving nieces and nephews.
Her daughter, RoseAnn, shared, “My mother was a strong and intelligent woman, who instilled in all of us the importance of education, hard work, and loyalty. She fiercely loved her family and you knew she would always be there for you no matter the hardship. She especially treasured the time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and was very proud of all of them. She will be terribly missed by all of us”

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you in this difficult and sorrowful time! Among the many wonderful things I will remember about Frannie was how impressed I was, while sitting in RoseAnn's basement, that her ironing skills where perfection!!! I said, "Frannie, there is not one wrinkle in those shirts!!" She replied with a small smile and much pride, " I know."
