Obituary for Gregory LaMorte

Gregory (Rick) LaMorte was born to parents Alfonso LaMorte Jr. and Olga LaMorte on June 3rd 1959 in NYC.
Rick attended Tottenville HS and Wagner College, where he played varsity baseball and earned his Masters degree in Business. He worked for Morgan Stanley where he served as Executive Director for many years. After retiring from the financial firm at a young age, he continued to enjoy following the Stock Market and was very generous with his time, helping others understand the Market and make educated investments.
Rick had a deep love for African Grey Parrots and founded the African Grey Foundation, a charitable non-profit, for which he served as President. His goal was to save the species, which is nearing extinction and traveled several times to Ghana to supervise the building of a parrot sanctuary.
In the months prior to his death, he had been focusing his efforts on completing his second book featuring African Greys, while simultaneously fielding calls from around the world regarding his Foundation and giving advice to others who had parrot issues.
Rick was loved by many. His passing was unexpected by all. We miss him.
He is survived by his twin brother, Alfonso LaMorte lll, and sister Victoria LaPreta. He also had a half sister, Patty Tocco.

RIP Rick,

Rick was my boss when he worked in London. He was a great guy who we all respected and admired.
All his ex colleagues are deeply sadden by his loss.
Goodnight my friend.

To all Ricks family and friends. I send my deepest condolences. Rick has truly been a special person in my life. I have so many memories of all the adventures we shared from Steamboat to Vail. London and Venice. Hunter and the Hamptons. We’ve had our share of good times over the years. This past year when I moved away we spoke all the time about Tank Tuvok Kess. The Foundation. He was one awesome guy. I’m really going to miss you my friend. Rest peacefully - I know Tank was there to greet you. Xoxo

I am so sorry and devastated to hear of Rick's passing. Rick was someone I looked to like a brother. When I think of him, I smile, as we had many, many good times and laughs together. He helped teach me to ski, which I am now teaching my son and will think of him always. My heart is broken. My deepest condolences.

I first met Rick because we both had birds and I knew his two birds well. But we became friends. He generously helped me figure out some Investing stuff that made a huge difference in my life and I will always be grateful for that.
He triumphed over his illness for many years with such bravery and may he rest in peace now. Tuvok and Kes will miss him.

I was so sorry to hear about Rick's passing. My deepest condolences to his family & friends during this difficult time. I met Rick when I sold him his waterfront condo in Somers Point - he was an amazing person, kind and generous, and he will truly be missed. Wishing you peace, Cathy Laltrello
