Obituary

Obituary for Henry R. Wakie

Henry R Wakie Sr. affectionately known as Hank, of Staten Island, NY, passed away peacefully at the age 88, on the morning of September 5, 2020.
He survived his wife, Terry, of 33 years and his brothers Arthur and John. He is survived by his loving companion Jean of 33 years, his four children and their spouses, Janice & Larry, Loretta & Joey, John & Pat, Hank & Kirsten; 2 step children, Michele, Gina & her spouse Harry; 29 grandchildren and 21 great -grandchildren; his brothers, Joe, Chet and his wife Tina; his brother-in -law William and his wife Dotty.
He was loving and kind and took joy in his family and friends, especially all the grandchildren and great-grandkids. He particularly loved, his role as Papa and as Santa to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his vacations in Aruba and volunteering for various organizations. He was a caring individual who taught you the value of hard work, generosity, humility and wouldn’t hesitate to give you the shirt off his back.
He also contributed his help to organizations that brought special needs and disadvantage children to the Circus, Nelly Bly Amusement Park, Astro Land and at Christmas time worked with organizations like Community of Mayors distributing donated gifts. I don’t know who smiled and laughed more, the kids or him.
Hank proudly served his Country as a member of the US Army during the Korean conflict, was a retired Forman of the NYC Department of Sanitation, an active member of the American Legion Post 1544, Polanski Association, Sanitation Retirees, Columbia Association and an Usher at St. Charles Roman Catholic Church. He was a true patriot. His love for America was unsurpassed. He would always say “My America” with a great big smile on his face!
Memorial donations can be made to Special Olympics and or the American Legion Post 1544.
