James was born in Manhattan on November 7th, 1917. The family later moved to Brooklyn NY, where he grew up and attended New Utrecht High School and graduated in 1936. He studied and mastered the violin. After graduation, he pursued a career in the hotel business. He loved his job at the New York Hilton in NYC because he enjoyed meeting all sorts of people. They could be rich, famous, not so rich or famous, it didn’t matter, they were all to be treated special. He served in the army during WWII. His love for his country never wavered. He was a devout Catholic and member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a passionate musician of many instruments, especially the violin. He continued with his playing by performing at his church and choir.
James will be remembered for his kindness and for enjoying the simple pleasures in life with his wife and family. Always a gentleman, he had a way to make you smile and let you know that everything would be alright. He would write poems and songs to celebrate people he met. This only validated how lucky we were to have known him.
James, was the son of the late Giovanni and Illuminata, brother to the late Rosario, Mary and Marion. He was the loving husband for 69 years to Mildred (Rago), who was the true love of his life. Mildred predeceased him in 2010. He was the beloved father of Loretta, Patricia, Kathleen, James, Jr. (Camille), and Janet.
