Obituary

Obituary for Jonathan Derbyshire

Jonathan J. Derbyshire (May 7, 1992 – May 2, 2020)

“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty, well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, worn out and loudly proclaiming what a ride”

With deepest sorrow, we announce that Jonathan Derbyshire, our most beloved son, brother, family member and friend passed away. Those who knew Jonathan, even in the slightest, lost a shining light in their lives. Jonathan loved competing in elite Spartan races, his beloved beagle Band!t, playing football, and Jameson. In addition to being an incredible athlete and loyal friend, Jonathan was a loyal patriot and American, the first to lend a helping hand, the defender of the underdog, a craftsman and carpenter, an exceptional dancer and the life of every party.

Born and raised in NYC, Jonathan played football throughout his life, bringing prestige to “29.” He became a NYC union carpenter with Local 157, where he worked alongside his father. He has volunteered his time at the Sgt. Michael Ollis VFW Post. Jonathan has traveled and competed across the globe, inspiring many to compete along side him.

Jonathan will be missed everyday by his parents John and Dawn, his sisters Meagan and Caitlin, his loving grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and many, many great friends.

Arrangements are with Colonial Funeral Home. His memorial service will be held May 28, 2020 2-4pm.
