Obituary for Maria Rivera

Maria Rivera, a mother, grand-mother and a true friend. Went to heaven on April 28, 2020 to join her parents, siblings and other family members, after an extended illness. She is survived by her 2 daughters, Juanita Prioleau and Maria Perini; 2 grandsons, Michael-Anthony and John; and 2 sons-in law, Michael and Joseph. Maria was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico and moved to Brooklyn, NY on April 6, 1960 with her husband and oldest daughter. Two and half years later her youngest daughter, Maria, was born. Maria worked in the yarn industry for many years. A beautiful, caring, thrust worthy, strong, amazing woman worked hard to provide for her daughters and other family members – she dedicated her entire life to her daughters, family and friends. She was a true friend to many people – no one went without food if she knew that the need was there. She fed stray animals whenever she would spot one that was hungry, and every morning fed peanuts to the squirrels.

In 1987, she moved to Staten Island, NY. While living in Staten Island, she spent most of her time with her grandchildren and traveling. Her hobby was to take clothes to the homeless in Manhattan. She impacted on so many lives in her own way by caring and giving. We will miss her tremendously – but God only takes the best to become angels in heaven. Mom, we will always love you.

Sol T. Alsina (Teresita)

My deepest condolences for the loss of your mother. Even in this time of grief, may her memory carry you on to brighter days. Praying you’re comforted by memories and held close in God’s love. I’m sure she felt the love, support, and care that was given to her in this life. The one thing that I clearly remember about Maria is her smile and her delicious cooked meals. Sending prayers of peace and blessings to the family.
