Obituary

Obituary for Ralph Infantino

Mr. Ralph Infantino, 86, passed away peacefully on March, 27, 2020 in Staten Island University Hospital where he developed complications from the COVID-19 coronavirus. He was the devoted husband to Carmela Infantino.

Ralph was born on Sept. 17, 1933 in Sant'Eufemia d'Aspromonte, Italy. He immigrated to the United States in 1949 where he lived in Brooklyn, NY. He graduated from New Utrecht High School and then attended Saint Francis College studying Business Administration. Ralph went back to Italy in 1968 where he met his wife Carmela who were married in Gambarie, Calabria. They both traveled back to the US and set up residence in Brooklyn, NY.

Ralph continued to work with his Uncle Joe Infantino and took over operations of the family run Infantino Brothers Fruit and Vegetables store. Ralph was a hardworking and dedicated business owner always looking to source the freshest produce from the markets in Hunts Point and Canarsie, or directly from the farms in South Jersey.

In 1982, Ralph started his second career as a Security Guard at the Metropolitan Museum of Art where he always enjoyed his interactions with the public and especially his celebrity encounter with Sylvester Stallone. He retired in 1995 when he became a full-time grandfather where he and his wife Carmela spent most of their time provided babysitting services to all of their 8 grandchildren.

Ralph always enjoyed watching baseball and was a lifelong NY Yankees fan; he was infatuated with the legal system and would watch any courtroom themed show that he can get his eyes on. He also loved to travel through cruising when most recently in 2018, the entire immediate family of 18 went on a cruise to Bermuda to celebrate their 50th Wedding Anniversary.

Ralph is survived by his wife Carmela who resides in Staten Island, NY; by his children, Anthony and his wife Maria of Massapequa, NY; Joseph and his wife Maryann of Staten Island, NY, Vincent and his wife Corin of Montclair, NJ; and Maria and her husband Julio of Staten Island, NY; his grandchildren: Nicole, Danielle, Julianna, Jamie, Tommy, Christopher, Ben, and Gianna. Ralph is also survived by his brother Giuseppe Infantino and his wife Giuseppina of Brooklyn NY; his sisters Francesca of Sant'Eufemia d'Aspromonte, Italy; Domenica Infantino of Brooklyn, NY; and Serafina and her husband Giuseppe of Sant'Eufemia d'Aspromonte, Italy; Sister in Law - Pietra Infantino of Catasauqua, PA, wife of his late brother Dominick; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A private ceremony will be held for Ralph at Colonial Funeral Home followed by burial at the Resurrection Cemetery in Staten Island, NY. Once the health and social impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic have been alleviated, a memorial ceremony will be scheduled in Ralph’s honor. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Ralph’s honor can be made to either the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America or The Parkinson’s Foundation.
