Obituary

Obituary for Sophie Poluchowicz

Sophie Poluchowicz

Former Bank of New York employee,

Sunny Time Pools secretary, 84

Sophie Poluchowicz died Saturday at Staten Island University Hospital. She was 84 years old.

A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, January 10, 2020, at 10:00 AM at the Russian Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity on 400 Glenmore Avenue, Brooklyn, N.Y. The family will receive friends at Colonial Funeral Home, 2819 Hylan Blvd., Staten Island, N.Y. tomorrow from 7-9 p.m. and Thursday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.

Ms. Poluchowicz was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., where she grew up, attended her church and went to high school. She later moved to Staten Island which she called home for the last 51 years.

Ms. Poluchowicz worked on Wall Street for various firms over many years working with stock certificates and wire transfers. She ended her career about 15 years ago at Bank of New York. In her retirement, she
worked as a secretary for Sunny Time Pools, a family owned and operated business since 2004.

Ms. Poluchowicz had an active retirement life. Besides working seasonally, she also enjoyed many trips with AARP and worked for the Department of Elections as a poll worker and supervisor. Sophie especially loved her trips to Atlantic City to “crack the machines” and win. Ms. Poluchowicz also loved nostalgic movies and television shows. Her greatest joys were volunteering for the Sisterhood and as a trustee at her church, her family and her friends.

Ms. Poluchowicz was the daughter of the late Wasillio and Anna Dudko and was a loving wife to Alexander Sr. for 30 years. She was a beloved mother to the late Alexander Jr. She leaves her son Stephen, her daughter-in-law Rosemarie, and her grandchildren Lawrence and Stephenie. The family requests that you please remember her soul in your prayers.

Aunt Sophie, going to your house was always like home. You were always so good to us girls. The dresses you picked for us were always so beautiful!!! I remember when we got the box of short outfits that one summer. We felt so spoiled!! I wish I could remember all the funny things you said, because you were a hoot. We were so lucky for our time at your house in Staten Island. Some of my best memories are from those summers. You and Uncle Al were the best. My only peace is that you two are together again. Thank you for all your love, kindness and generosity. You will be very missed.
